“Need to be kicked out of the country” according to Attorney General Pam Bondi, who made the statement about anti-Israel student demonstrators in the US on visas who are threatening American students.
While appearing on a live audio of the “Verdict with Ted Cruz” show with Republican Senator Ted Cruz and radio broadcaster Ben Ferguson, Bondi made the statement, “All of our students deserve to be safe,” at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) outside Washington, D.C. on Thursday. “First of all, these students who are here on visas, who are threatening our American students, need to be kicked out of this country.”
“Amen,” Cruz said Bondi.
The 87th attorney general of the United States, Bondi, who took the oath of office on February 5, said that upholding the rule of law in his role as chief law enforcement officer is “pretty basic.”
The anti-Israel student rallies that shook the United States, according to Bondi, were far from being “peaceful protests.”
Before I had this position, when I was just a citizenβ¦ Even if I’m observing, these aren’t demonstrations that want to be peaceful. All of us support nonviolent resistance. I see. “I’m sorry, but if you disagree with parents praying outside abortion clinics, or if you are Catholic, or if you are a parent on a school board, you will be called a domestic terrorist,” she added, adding that the anti-Israel rallies were “violent.”
There was a rise in antisemitism and Jewish students made public statements about not feeling secure on certain campuses during the 2024 college protests that swept the country in opposition to the Israeli conflict.
For instance, demonstrators occupied Hamilton Hall on the New York City campus of Columbia University, while universities like Yale, UCLA, and Harvard had to contend with escalating student encampments where demonstrators wanted their prestigious institutions to totally withdraw their financial support from Israel.
On October 7, 2023, the terrorist group Hamas began hostilities against Israel. This stoked antisemitism on college campuses, as students protested, vandalized property, and felt “open season for Jews on our campuses.” Columbia University was among many colleges that issued evacuation orders to Jewish students as the demonstrations escalated.
In her discussion with Cruz and Ferguson, Bondi further mentioned that following her fifteen days as attorney general, she was “most concerned” by the “volume of how bad” and politicized the Department of Justice had grown under former President Joe Biden.
I was most worried aboutβ¦ This is the level of severity with which it was and remains an issue. It is being addressed. We’ve got a fantastic crew, so it’s just day by day. And I issued fourteen executive directives on the first day. And the first is that weaponization is coming to an end. This is the last part. “And that is our specialty,” she remarked.
Bondi has stated that “a lot” of DOJ employees have expressed gratitude for her leadership, stating that the majority of her staff members desire “to fight crime.”
“The majority of the people are great people, who went to law school, became prosecutors, became law enforcement agents to fight crime,” according to her.
