The Trump team said on Monday that the Republican National Committee’s platform-writing committee had approved a more moderate text that included softer wording on abortion and same-sex marriage.
According to an AWN source, the former president did more than just modify the party platform; he also drafted parts of it personally. The Republican National Committee platform committee swiftly endorsed Trump’s revised platform on Monday. The platform, which he has been using to transform the Republican Party throughout his third presidential campaign, represents Trump’s wider policy agenda on a variety of subjects.
In a Monday social media post, Trump lauded the new platform, saying, “Ours is a forward-looking Agenda with strong promises that we will accomplish very quickly when we win the White House and Republican Majorities in the House and Senate.”
The revised wording on abortion reflects Trump’s stance following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which is that states should now be allowed to set their own regulations.
“We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied Life or Liberty without Due Process, and the States are, therefore, free to pass Laws protecting those Rights,” an AWN-obtained draft document states. Some social conservatives had hoped that the new program would contain a nationwide ban on abortion, but the ex-president has already stated his opposition to the idea.
A prominent anti-abortion organization, SBA Pro-Life America, released a statement following the platform’s release in which it stated that the platform reiterates the party’s “dedication to safeguard life through the 14th Amendment.”
“America First: A Return to Common Sense,” the revised platform, also removes the phrase “one man and one woman” from the definition of marriage.
Furthermore, the program urges to “end inflation” and “Make America Affordable Again” rather than focusing on lowering the national debt. The paper also details Trump’s position on Medicare and Social Security, reiterating the previous president’s opposition to benefit cuts.
With an emphasis on immigration and a demand to seal the border, Trump’s new platform escalates his campaign trail rhetoric. Furthermore, it demands a halt to “the weaponization of government against the American people.”
The source states that the platform was accepted in a closed-door ballot with a resounding majority of 84 to 18.
Next Monday, the full party convention will start in Milwaukee, where the platform will be discussed.
