Elon Musk is urging Americans to persuade their senators and representatives to “kill” the “big, beautiful” budget plan that President Trump supports, only one week after he resigned as director of the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency.
According to Musk, the U.S. budget deficit would rise by $5 billion if Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” were to pass. His criticism of the measure has intensified over the past several days.
In what seemed to be a reference to his demand to scrap the Trump-backed law, Musk shared a screenshot from the 2003 Uma Thurman film “Kill Bill” on Wednesday afternoon.
While appearing on X, Musk emphasized the need of a new measure that would prevent the deficit from increasing.
Call your senators and congressmen; it is unacceptable to bankrupt the United States, Musk said in another post. Extinguish the bill.
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, Musk expressed his frustration, saying, “just can’t stand it anymore.”
“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” stated the CEO. Voters, you are aware that you made a mistake; it is shame on you. I know it.
Musk had earlier voiced his disapproval of the law in an interview with CBS, describing himself as “disappointed” by the funding package and how “it undermines” the efforts of his DOGE team.
The measure was overwhelmingly approved by members of both parties in the House in late May, just before Memorial Day. Two Republicans, however, cast ballots against the bill, arguing that it did not go far enough in cutting expenditure and that the national debt was growing. Rand Paul, a Republican senator from Kentucky, has also hinted that he will probably not support the plan as it is, stating that a debt limit rise is something he cannot abide.
While Trump has been harsh with Paul and others who opposed the bill, he has been more circumspect in responding to Musk’s criticisms thus far.
In response to Musk’s latest critique, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “Look, the president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill” at a Tuesday afternoon briefing.
It has no effect on the president’s stance. According to her, he is steadfastly adhering to this enormous and stunning bill.
