Elon Musk seemed to playfully reevaluate his position on the Big Beautiful Bill following a Democrat from California stepping out to support him.
Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) expressed his belief that Elon Musk is correct in a post on X. But it appears that’s the only thing they can agree on. The Big Beautiful Bill is full of pork, which they both find objectionable. Both Musk and Schiff are against the measure. Musk thinks it increases government spending too much, while Schiff is against it due of its “far-right” elements, which he deems “dangerous.”
Musk quickly responded, denying that Schiff had lauded the tech billionaire’s stance on the measure.
“Hmm, few things could convince me to reconsider my position more than Adam Schiff agreeing with me!”
It appeared like Musk and the government were on excellent terms when he departed on May 30. A symbolic “key to the White House” was presented to Musk by President Trump as a parting gift and an expression of gratitude for his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
As he left the Oval Office, Musk expressed his desire “to continuing to be a friend and adviser to the president.” Nevertheless, matters escalated precipitously as a rivalry between Trump and Musk grew hotter following the Tesla founder’s public criticism of the Big Beautiful Bill.
According to Musk, the “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.” He made this statement after the measure went through the House.Voters, you are in the dark about what you did; it’s shame on you. I know it.
Some Republicans, including Utah’s Mike Lee and Kentucky’s Rand Paul, agreed with Musk’s critiques, while others were more divided. In the meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his amazement at Musk’s response and asserted that he and Musk had a productive conversation over the measure.
Subsequently, Trump and Musk started fighting on TV and their respective social media sites, Truth Social and X. The president expressed his disappointment with Musk to reporters in the Oval Office, saying he was “very disappointed” with the former head of DOGE, a remark that Musk refuted.
Both of the explosive tweets that resulted from the heated debate were subsequently removed. Musk made the assertion in one article that Trump was named in papers pertaining to the late sex offender and shamed businessman Jeffrey Epstein. Musk supported a message in his other post that said Vice President J.D. Vance should assume leadership and advocated for the impeachment of Trump.
Whether Trump and Musk will make up is still up in the air, but at this point it is quite improbable. According to Trump, “Elon’s totally lost it,” and he expressed his disinterest in speaking with Musk during an interview with AWN’s top political anchor Bret Baier.
