US Central Command reports that two ISIS officials were killed in a helicopter raid in eastern Syria.

In an early Sunday morning helicopter assault in eastern Syria, the US killed two ISIS leaders, according to a statement from US Central Command.

According to CENTCOM, the raid was a unilateral US action that had “considerable planning,” and the preliminary findings indicated that no civilians were killed or hurt.

“Anas,” a local ISIS leader active in organising activities in eastern Syria, was one of the officials that perished.

According to Col. Joe Buccino, spokesman for Central Command, “the murder of senior ISIS officials will impede the terrorist organization’s capacity to further plot and carry out destabilising activities in the Middle East.”

Even if recent Turkish operations in northern Syria targeting Kurdish forces have put US personnel in danger and threatened to destabilise the situation in Syria, the US claimed it remained dedicated to the battle to combat ISIS “in conjunction with local forces.”

The US greeted the news of the demise of ISIS leader Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al- Qurayshi two weeks ago. Unlike the previous commander, Hajji Abdullah, who was slain in a US raid in February, he was not killed during a US operation.
