Crime and Rhyme: Rapper Behind Bars for Murder Ballad

A Nevada rapper was arrested for murder after police in Las Vegas claimed he “confessed to the murder in his (song) lyrics.”

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated in a news release that Kenjuan McDaniel was arrested on August 29 on a charge of open homicide with a deadly weapon. According to court documents, his bail was set at $1 million with electronic monitoring on Thursday.

According to a redacted arrest warrant, McDaniel was considered a person of interest in the death of Randall Wallace on September 18, 2021, in part due to his connection to a vehicle matching the description of one used during the crime.

According to the warrant, a detective noted a music video posted by McDaniel on YouTube in July and reviewed the lyrics and video.

“Detectives determined that the similarities between the music video and the details of the murder were adequate. This incorporates Kenjuan’s confession to the murder in his lyrics… The warrant stated that details provided by Kenjuan in his music video were not made public and were not generally known.

The warrant asserts that the lyric “Parked the car, double back on feet, the smartest way to slide, drove in, double lock yo man, make sure you get yo bod” contains information about the murder that has not been made public. In addition, the report states that while McDaniel rapped in the video, he reenacted aspects of the murder “consistent with evidence at the scene.”

“The investigation facts were gathered independently of the music video.” The music video provided additional support for the investigation’s findings,” it continued.

The preliminary hearing for McDaniel is scheduled for Thursday.
