McCarthy Speaks: Trump Support Strong, But 2024 Campaign Strategy Shifts

In spite of his warning that Trump should not make his reelection campaign about “revenge,” former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has reaffirmed his endorsement of Trump for president in 2024.

During a pre-recorded interview that aired on Sunday on “CBS Sunday Morning,” McCarthy responded positively when asked if Trump could rely on his support. “I will support the president,” McCarthy said while laughing when asked whether he was endorsing Trump officially. It is my intention to back President Trump.

In a recent interview with AWN, McCarthy expressed his support for the former president while emphasising that he had not given his endorsement to anyone. An interview with AWN’s Manu Raju revealed that he supported President Trump but had not officially endorsed him.

McCarthy’s possible endorsement of Trump has prompted AWN to contact him for comment.

When it comes to the Republican presidential primary, Trump is now in the lead. According to a recent poll by the Wall Street Journal, among possible Republican primary voters nationwide, the former president has 59% support. In a distant second place, with 15% each, are former UN ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Most surveys have shown that Trump has the support of the majority of the prospective GOP electorate nationally, which is consistent with previous recent polls on the Republican primary.

Opponents of Trump, both within the GOP and the Democratic Party, have attempted to portray him as a threat to democracy in the event that he were to win the presidency again. They have done this by highlighting Trump’s statements regarding “retribution” and his numerous policies that would grant the president power over even non-political aspects of the federal government.

Despite Trump’s denial of the criticism, McCarthy told CBS that if Trump were to return to the White House, he should cease seeking revenge against those he views as his adversaries.

For McCarthy, the reelection campaign was not about vengeance. It is important to note that America “doesn’t want to see the idea of retribution.”

“Listen, I was selected not to be the speaker. Perhaps my counsel isn’t the most sound. My one certainty is that I adore this nation. He vowed to do all in his power and actively participate in the process to ensure that tomorrow would be better than today.

When asked if he would be interested in joining a Trump administration in the future, McCarthy stated that he was open to the idea.

Exactly where it should be. Okay, I’ll take the job if you think I’m the best candidate. I have to admit, I collaborated with Trump on numerous policy matters. Our partnership is characterised by open and honest communication, and we worked together to secure the majority, he added.
