Biden's Assault: Haley Calls Out Democrats on Trump's Abortion Stance

As Democrats focus on the politically powerful issue ahead of November’s election, President Joe Biden and his allies attacked Donald Trump on abortion. This came after the New York Times revealed on Friday that the former president had privately indicated support for a 16-week federal ban.

The former president has not pledged to support a nationwide abortion ban, according to Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, who talked with AWN. Regarding the article from the Times, she stated that Trump would “sit down with both sides and negotiate a deal that everyone will be happy with.”

However, Democrats like Biden have used the news to their advantage, claiming that Trump has shown support for a 16-week ban with some exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and situations where the mother’s life is in jeopardy. In a message he released on Friday, Biden claimed that Trump was plotting to “rip away your rights” and that he was “running to protect them.”

Trump is “running scared” after being “responsible for taking away women’s freedom, putting women’s lives in danger, unleashing all this cruelty and chaos all across America,” the president added.

In November, he fears that American women will hold him accountable for stripping them of their rights and putting them in jeopardy, he revealed. Which is precisely the outcome that we may expect.

The Biden campaign blasted Trump on the topic during a press conference after the Times piece came out, and the DNC said, “Trump is making it clear that access to abortion for all women is on the ballot this November.”

Trump, who is vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, boasts about his appointment of three Supreme Court judges who voted to remove federal abortion restrictions in 2022 with the conservative majority, so reversing Roe v. Wade. As a major accomplishment of his presidency, he has pointed to the overthrow of Roe v. Wade as the reason why stringent abortion legislation could be passed nationwide.

However, Trump has avoided directly addressing abortion in his campaign speeches and has avoided stating which exact abortion laws he will support if reelected. Trump has avoided discussing Roe v. Wade at his most recent campaign rallies, instead briefly mentioning his pledge to “protect innocent life” in the event of a second term in office.

Even while Trump has publicly acknowledged that Republicans have been negatively impacted by the abortion debate since Roe v. Wade was reversed and has criticised his own party members for their messaging on the topic, he is still hesitant to take a firm stance on the matter. Those who are against abortion are outraged by his criticism of six-week abortion prohibitions, which he compared to his former GOP presidential opponent Ron DeSantis’s bill.

Trump said Republicans “still have to win elections” in response to a voter’s question regarding his stance on a six-week ban during a January Fox News town hall. Conservative Republican candidates were “decimated” in the election, Trump said.

This is in stark contrast to Biden’s campaign, which has utilised television advertisements and a “reproductive freedoms tour” spearheaded by Vice President Kamala Harris to elevate abortion rights to the forefront of the 2024 election.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, an AWN poll by SSRS found that over two-thirds of Americans were against the decision. In addition, a November AWN poll indicated that when it comes to abortion, Americans lean more towards the Democratic Party than the Republican Party.
