Firestorm in Vermont: Senator Bernie Sanders’ Office Under Attack

A Vermont man is wanted by authorities after a fire was allegedly set outside of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’s office on Friday. No one was hurt in the small fire, which only caused minor damage.

The office door was set on fire after an unidentified male suspect poured what seemed to be an accelerant on it, according to authorities. The culprit then made a quick getaway. They stated that no motive had been found and that the culprit was still at large.

“A substantial fire consumed the entrance and a portion of the vestibule, rendering the escape of employees occupied with office tasks hazardous,” stated the Burlington police. “The sprinkler system was activated, which effectively put out the fire.”

A fire broke out earlier in the day in Sanders’ third-floor office in Burlington, Vermont, between the vestibule, the lift and the main door, according to the Burlington Fire Department, which had responded to a report on Friday morning. There was moderate fire damage to the office door and substantial water damage to most of the third floor. Sanders and those in the vicinity had to flee their offices.

When asked for comment, a Sanders spokesman did not immediately return the request. The office did not have Sanders present.
