The media, according to journalist Mark Halperin, are shielding Vice President Kamala Harris “at all costs” following Tuesday night’s pivotal ABC News presidential debate.
There was a news agency that was determined to defend her until Election Day, and we noticed that they didn’t even acknowledge how unevenly they covered the discussion, which was hilarious. According to Halperin, who was speaking during a livestream on his media platform 2WAY on Wednesday, the majority of the feedback was positive on ABC’s performance.
Conservatives were angry that ABC debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis neglected to correct Harris once while fact-checking former president Trump five times throughout the contentious event. Moderators were also said to have absolved Harris of responsibility for pressing her for an explanation of her position shifts on multiple progressive ideas from her past.
According to Halperin, a former political director at ABC News, the moderators’ lenient handling of Harris’ policy shifts constituted the “greatest disappointment of the evening.”
I think yesterday night was the biggest opportunity to ask Harris about her shifting stances on important issues; in fact, if her team keeps hiding her, it may be her only chance. According to him, that was the most significant setback.
Harris and her running partner have only had seven unscripted interviews since the Harris-Walz ticket was formed, with less than two months to go before Election Day. In contrast, Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, have participated in at least 44 interviews during that time.
He contended that Harris may have had no other chance to clarify her evolving policy stances than during the debate.
“They asked her one question, she didn’t answer it, and then they dropped it completely,” said Halperin.
Davis did press Harris about her present healthcare plan at the end of the debate, and she did bring up her prior support for eliminating private health care.
Also, according to Halperin, Trump gave the “worst debate performance I’ve ever seen” of any president in American history.
He said that Trump’s criticism of Harris as a radical leftist was misunderstood.
“Last night he demonstrated what most of us thought was the case: He’s utterly unable to do it,” remarked Halperin.
Halperin was of the opinion that the debate would not significantly affect the polls, even if he believed the media to be biased and that Trump had a bad showing.
“There may be movement, there may not,” he pointed out.
