A senator from Joe Biden’s party cautioned on AWN that Donald Trump may win in a “landslide,” exposing the dangers of Biden’s steadfast adherence to the Democratic nominee on a high-stakes day in Washington.
With Biden’s intransigence, Democrats are growing worried that the president could jeopardize not only the White House but also their already slim chances of retaking the House or maintaining control of the Senate.
While the White House was able to quell any potential uprisings at Tuesday’s heated sessions of House and Senate Democrats, even Biden’s supporters voiced doubts about his strategy and ability to lead the campaign to victory. Concern regarding the president’s future was further heightened on Wednesday by remarks made by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and by actor and Democratic supporter George Clooney, who urged Biden to willingly resign.
Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado was the first of his colleagues to go public after privately expressing concerns that Joe Biden couldn’t win in November, according to sources who spoke with AWN’s Dana Bash.
“I did say that,” Bennet told Kaitlan Collins of AWN. “In my opinion, Donald Trump is poised to not only win this election, but to win it with a landslide and seize control of the House and Senate as well.” He went on to say, “So this isn’t a question about polling” in his opinion. This is not a political question. Concerning our nation’s destiny, it raises moral questions.
“It seems to me that the White House has failed to take any concrete steps since that disastrous debate to show that they are prepared to win this election.”
Certainly, not all Democratic senators share Bennet’s views, but the argument and its fallout have caused considerable anxiety inside the party.
Members’ concerns were brought up by Pelosi, who seemed to imply that Biden’s position on the Democratic ticket remained up in the air, even though he claims he isn’t leaving. “Whether or not the president decides to run is entirely up to him. “Time is running short,” she remarked on MSNBC Wednesday morning, adding that everyone is urging him to make that decision. “It is what it is, and I want him to do whatever he wants.”

With only nine days to go until he accepts the Republican nomination, Trump re-energised himself and returned to the campaign trail Tuesday night with a furious rally in Florida, further complicating his already precarious re-election prospects.

Senate and House party leaders expressed obvious, if not overly enthusiastic, support for the president, and no critical mass of lawmakers materialized to pose a real challenge to Biden’s nomination grip. His detractors were ultimately powerless in the face of Biden’s Monday letter to Congress, in which he said, “I am firmly committed to staying in this race” and the fact that primary voters had already spoken. Pelosi hinted again on Wednesday morning that the Democratic ticket was still up for debate.
