President Biden is actively seeking employment since he has just more than 22 weeks remaining in his tenure.
In an effort to present himself in a more favorable light as a statesman in his latter years, he told a gathering of hundreds of internet content creators at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on Wednesday that they were “the future” and the news source that his grandkids favored.
He made a joke about being unemployed and invited the speaker to the White House, saying, “You break through in ways that I think are going to change the entire dynamic of the way in which we communicate,” which caused the audience to chuckle.
After a short hiatus after deciding not to run for re-election, the president has recently filled his schedule with engagements, giving the impression that he is noticeably unconstrained and laidback.
While in New Orleans on Tuesday to announce funding for a very personal project—the research and development of new cancer treatments—President Biden made it obvious that he was still closely involved in the most pressing national issues by receiving briefings on the situations in Ukraine and Gaza every five hours.
However, he also found time to interact with the press, stopping twice to address the crowd of reporters that had gathered; he would frequently hurry past them during more tense periods; and he stayed for dinner at a seafood restaurant after the official visit with his wife and about a dozen staff members.
Following the conclusion of his campaign, the president has taken a more relaxed approach to public engagements, while simultaneously assuring the public that he is still focusing on his most pressing problems and launching legacy initiatives.
Mr. Biden shot back that it was “business as usual” when a reporter earlier this month asked if the multinational prisoner exchange he had helped organize had any particular importance given his impending retirement.
Following the agreement that freed sixteen individuals detained by Russia, he declared, “I’d still get it done even if I was seeking a second term.” “You’re going to have to put up with my presidency for a bit, young man.”
As he mixed with the younger generation on Wednesday, Mr. Biden entertained an improbable dream: he envisioned a career as an internet content creator.
“You believe — after I stop working, where do you suppose I’ll go?” he asked. “Are you kidding me? I have contacts, man.”
