Border Battle: Trump's Aggressive Stance on Anti-Immigrant Policies

On Sunday, former President Donald Trump will deliver a speech in Texas, not far from the border with Mexico, ramping up his anti-immigrant rhetoric and advocating for strict immigration policies.

Before the address, the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination earned the endorsement of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

At an event in Edinburg, Texas, the Republican governor stated of the former president, “We need Donald J. Trump back as our president of the United States of America.”

On the campaign trail, Trump has been increasing his rhetoric, saying that he will lead the “largest domestic deportation operation in American history” if he is elected president in the upcoming year. In comments that mimicked White nationalist language, he argued that undocumented immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country” and compared migrants to the fictitious serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

“There’s never been anything like this. The enemy has invaded our country. At a rally in Hialeah, Florida, Trump used the term “invasion” to describe the current wave of undocumented immigrants.

Should he be re-elected, Trump intends to implement a sweeping expansion of his administration’s hard-line immigration policies that will severely limit legal and illegal immigration. Plans call for the imprisonment of illegal aliens already living in the United States before their eventual deportation. Large detention centres for migrants awaiting deportation would have to be built, and federal and local law enforcement would have to be enlisted to help with the nationwide roundup of undocumented immigrants.

One of President Trump’s main concerns is ending the invasion at America’s southern border. A spokesperson for the Trump campaign told AWN that their candidate has “by far the most detailed programme for securing the border, stopping illegal immigration, and removing those who should never have been allowed into our country in the first place” in his own speeches and Agenda 47 platform.

Last Monday, representatives from the Biden campaign condemned the measures, calling them “unAmerican.”

The immigrants, our rights, our safety, and our democracy are all at danger from Donald Trump. According to Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the campaign manager for Biden, “that is really what is on the ballot next year.”

The Biden campaign has criticised Trump’s planned visit to the border, painting the immigration policies of the former president as “inhumane” and “draconian.”

The former president has been using the conflict between Israel and Hamas to promote an immigration crackdown by stoking domestic fears and anti-immigrant sentiment. He’s pushed for “ideological screenings” of immigrants, banning immigration and refugees from predominately Muslim nations, and deporting people in the US on visas who he claims have “jihadist sympathies.”
