A border crossing between the U.S. and Canada has been blocked after a vehicle exploded at a checkpoint on a bridge near Niagara Falls.
The Buffalo FBI field office released a statement saying that agents were looking into the explosion on the Rainbow Bridge that spans the Niagara River between the United States and Canada.
The media captured images and footage of a burned out security booth, which they shared on social media.
There was no immediate access to additional details.
After being briefed on the event, Governor Kathy Hochul said she was “closely monitoring the situation.”
There are four border crossings between Ontario and western New York, and the Rainbow Bridge is one of them.
In addition to Lewiston and Whirlpool, Peace Bridge is another option. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission reported all four crossings are closed.
