On Sunday, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum backed Donald Trump for president, even though he had already dropped his own unlikely presidential campaign last month.
Burgum made the announcement while joking, “We come down here to warm up,” during a Trump event in Indianola.
Not one of his rivals in the presidential primary had done what he was about to accomplish, he declared. “And that’s backing Donald J. Trump in his presidential campaign.”
While campaigning in Iowa, where he has a huge lead in the polls before Monday’s caucuses, Trump welcomed Burgum and his wife to the stage.
After receiving single-digit votes and not making it to either of the GOP’s third or fourth debates, Burgum decided to call it quits on his presidential campaign.
