"California Showdown: Trump's Reign Leaves Rivals 'In Denial'"

Chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission Lina Khan stated that the FTC already has the jurisdiction to oversee artificial intelligence companies and threatened to take after companies that engage in anticompetitive practises in the emerging industry.

At the AI and Tech Summit hosted by AWN on Wednesday, Khan emphasised the need of existing FTC regulations in preventing unfair practises. She emphasised that the FTC wants the market to be aware that no artificial intelligence (AI)-related legislation are currently being exempted from compliance. It’s no secret that some defendants are making claims concerning the FTC’s legal standing.

She added that “any clarity” from Congress regarding the FTC’s role in regulating AI would be appreciated.

In a July report, FTC officials warned that generative AI tools like ChatGPT could harm competition.

When asked what Congress might do to help, she suggested the new Office of Technology could use additional funding and protections for privacy.

Melissa Holyoak and Andrew Ferguson, two Republican nominees to the Federal Trade Commission, also testified last week in favour of congressional control of artificial intelligence.
