Dangerous Aftermath: Hamburg Warehouse Fire Leads to Toxic Fume Warning

People in Hamburg, Germany, have been warned of heavy smoke and possibly pollutants in the air following a huge fire at a warehouse.

Social media videos show the warehouse engulfed in flames early Sunday morning, with smoke pouring into the sky.

“Smoke emissions and chemical components in the air after a warehouse fire can interfere with breathing.” “A cloud of smoke is moving towards the city centre!” said a fire department alert.

A police official told Reuters that 140 people had been evacuated.

Local residents have been ordered to close their windows and doors, according to NDR.

“Hamburg’s inner city has gone entirely dark,” a fire department spokesperson told the site.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown.

Trains between Hamburg and the nearby town of Büchen have been suspended as a result of the incident, according to Deutsche Bahn.

Trains between Hamburg and Berlin are also experiencing up to 90-minute delays.
