On Wednesday, Trump repeated his criticism of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, in a social media post in which he claimed that the United States had been deceived into paying billions to assist Ukraine in its defense after Russia invaded the country in 2022.
“Consider this: a very successful comedian named Volodymyr Zelenskyy convinced the United States to spend $350 billion on an unnecessary and unwinnable war that he, along with the United States and “TRUMP,” will never be able to end,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “Zelenskyy, the Dictator without Elections, needs to act quickly or else his country will perish.”
Before Trump’s astounding assault on the wartime president—which exaggerates U.S. aid funding and claims without proof that half of it was “MISSING”—took place, Zelenskyy had earlier on Wednesday claimed that Trump was “surrounded by misinformation” over his comments from Tuesday, in which he blamed Ukraine for starting the war.
This follows a meeting between Russian officials and Trump administration negotiators earlier this week, during which Ukraine was not present, in an effort to begin talks that may lead to an end to the war that Russia initiated.
