Donald Trump, the former US president who was barred from the social media platform by its previous owners, is up for re-admittance, according to a poll released on Twitter by Elon Musk.
The head of Twitter added the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which means “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” to it.
Before agreeing to purchase Twitter, Mr. Musk declared that if he became the company’s CEO, he would lift the “foolish” restriction on Mr. Trump.
“Permanent bans need to be exceedingly uncommon and should only be used to spam, bot, or fraudulent accounts. I do believe that Donald Trump’s ban was improper “In May, he stated.
I believe that was a mistake because it alienated a significant portion of the population without ultimately preventing Donald Trump from having a voice.
In January 2021, Mr. Trump’s Twitter account was permanently suspended due to the attack on the US Capitol by his supporters that left many people dead.
The software business claimed it made the choice because of the “potential of additional encouragement of violence” following the unrest on January 6.
At the time, Mr. Trump had more over 80 million platform followers.
According to an email obtained by the Reuters news agency, the billionaire Tesla owner instructed the remaining Twitter staff members who create software to report to the 10th floor of the San Francisco office by 2pm local time on Saturday.
In the email, Mr. Musk was reported as stating, “If possible, I would like it if you could fly to SF to be present in person.” He also said he would be at the company’s offices until midnight and would return on Saturday.
According to estimates, hundreds of Twitter employees decided to quit the company on Friday as a result of Elon Musk’s Thursday deadline for employees to accept longer, more demanding work schedules or quit.
The exodus intensifies the instability and quick change that have characterised Mr. Musk’s first three weeks as Twitter’s owner, during which time the company’s staff had already been reduced by more than halves to roughly 3,700 as a result of layoffs and other departures.
There are rumours that the site will crash during the World Cup, one of the busiest traffic periods on Twitter, because a large portion of the company’s personnel has since left.
According to social media specialist Matt Navarra, the current departure has “dramatically raised” the likelihood that Twitter will be taken offline over the next 24 hours.
Because of specific locks that prevent changes to the platform’s base code while Mr. Musk reorganises the company, he said he believes any impending blackout is improbable.
In order to maintain the stability of the site while he decides what to do next, Elon Musk has put a coding freeze in place and Twitter’s IT systems are currently operating somewhat automatically, according to Mr. Navarra.
