Head of important Russian shipyard passes away abruptly; cause unknown

A significant Russian shipyard that specialises in producing non-nuclear submarines reported that its general director passed away unexpectedly on Saturday after serving in the position for 11 years, but it provided no further information.

Alexander Buzakov’s passing was reported by Admiralty Shipyards, located in the western harbour of St. Petersburg. He started working there in August 2012.

It claimed that his greatest accomplishment was safeguarding and fortifying the shipyard’s order books for contemporary non-nuclear submarines, surface ships, and deep water vehicles.

According to the Tass news agency, the shipyard is constructing upgraded Kilo-class diesel-powered submarines with Kalibr cruise missile launchers.

Moscow claimed in April that it had utilised a diesel submarine in the Black Sea to launch Kalibr missiles at Ukrainian military installations.

Buzakov was believed to have been in his mid-sixties when he passed away because the shipyard claimed he graduated in 1980 and had more than 40 years of experience. Vladimir Putin resides in the city of St. Petersburg.
