Johnson Urges Supreme Court to Act After Trump Ruling

The former president was found guilty on dozens of felony counts in New York, prompting Speaker Mike Johnson to call for the Supreme Court to “step in”

“I do believe the Supreme Court should step in,” Johnson stated on Friday during his appearance on “Fox and Friends” on Fox News. “I think they’ll set this straight but it’s going to take a while.”

“I know many of them personally, I think they’re deeply concerned about” the public’s trust in the American judicial system, Johnson continued, referring to the justices on the Supreme Court.

It may take months—if not years—for Trump’s appeal of his New York conviction to make its way through the legal system, as he must first await sentencing.

This comes at a time when the Supreme Court is embroiled in a whirlwind of ethical scandals, the most current of which is the protest effort among certain Trump supporters to depose Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory banners from Justice Samuel Alito’s properties.

Alito has chosen not to step down from cases concerning Jan. 6 and Trump as a result of the flag episodes, despite mounting pressure to do so. Similar accusations have been leveled against Justice Clarence Thomas over his wife Ginni’s role in the events preceding January 6.
