Khamenei Blasts US ‘Nonsense’ as Nuclear Talks With Trump Stall

As far as future nuclear negotiations are concerned, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei labelled American demands that Tehran cease uranium enrichment as “utter nonsense” on Tuesday.

“For the Americans to declare, ‘We won’t allow Iran to enrich uranium,’ is sheer rubbish,” he wrote on X. “We are not requesting approval from anyone.

He went on to say, “The Islamic Republic has certain policies, and it will pursue them,” but he declined to specify those policies.

Since many throughout the world are concerned that Tehran is truly trying to create nuclear weapons, Iran has been under intense pressure to end its nuclear program in recent years.

Though it has not officially declared its intention to develop nuclear weapons, analysts believe that Iran has strengthened its missile program and refined uranium to a level where it could shoot a nuclear warhead.

Contrary to the widespread use of nuclear power and the enrichment of uranium for civilian purposes, Iran’s reliance on nuclear power was less than 1% in 2022, according to the International Energy Agency. This is in contrast to the United States, which uses nuclear power to meet nearly 20% of its energy needs and is its primary source of clean energy.

The White House has not yet commented on whether or whether it has actually asked that Iran stop all uranium enrichment, according to AWN Digital’s inquiries.

But Khamenei hinted that the Trump administration’s efforts to talk with Iran over their nuclear program would not last.

“Contemporary negotiations are analogous to those that occurred throughout Martyr Raisi’s administration. He said, “Needless to say, there was no result” when asked about the Biden administration’s efforts at negotiations. We also do not expect these discussions to produce any outcomes at this time. What will happen is anybody’s guess.

This weekend in Rome might see the fifth round of nuclear talks, according to reports. However, both Khamenei and his foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, stated that Iran has not yet consented to the talks in light of the most recent demands made by the United States.

“A date has been suggested, but we have not yet accepted it,” Araqchi told reporters Tuesday, as reported by Reuters. U.S. stances that do not follow any logic are causing complications for the discussions, as we are experiencing.

“That’s why we have not determined the next round of talks, we are reviewing the matter and hope logic will prevail,” said Araqchi.
