Netanyahu Declares Hamas’ Gaza Chief Sinwar ‘Eliminated’ in Major Blow

On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Mohammed Sinwar, a prominent Hamas leader, had been killed by Israeli forces.

The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, was the audience for Netanyahu’s statement. When asked about the terrorist commander’s death, the Israeli leader had only responded “apparently” before.

Among Israel’s most wanted individuals, Mohammed Sinwar was. Israeli forces attacked a hospital in southern Gaza earlier this month, killing him or severely injuring him. Netanyahu announced his death on May 21. Hamas has not yet confirmed the news.

“We changed the face of the Middle East in the 600 days of revival,” Netanyahu stated, as reported by the Times of Israel. “We removed the terrorists from our territories, entered the Gaza Strip, and killed [Mohammed] Deif, [Ismail] Haniyeh, Yahya [Sinwar], and Mohammed Sinwar.”

According to the source, who cited the Gaza Health Ministry, which is administered by Hamas, the attack on May 13 left at least 70 people wounded and 16 dead.

Ten of Sinwar’s assistants were also discovered dead in a tunnel in Khan Yunis, according to the source.

An Israeli airstrike in October killed Yahya Sinwar, the group’s previous commander; Sinwar is his younger brother. When his brother Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Sinwar died, Mohammed took over as commander of Hamas in the Gaza Strip and its military arm.

The killing of Mohammed Sinwar, who would have had the last say in any deal to free the hostages, might further complicate attempts by the United States and Arab countries to negotiate a truce. Israel is determined to keep fighting until the captives are freed and Hamas is either vanquished or disarmed and banished.

Israeli intelligence agency Shin Bet and the Israeli Defense Forces claim that Yahya Sinwar was behind the plot and execution of the October 7th Massacre.

“[He] promoted his murderous ideology both before and during the war, and was responsible for the murder and abduction of many Israelis,” according to the document.
