Mike Pence, who served as vice president and as president under Trump, shockingly rejected Trump on Friday, saying he “cannot in good conscience” support the presumed GOP nominee.
The conservative platform that we governed on for four years is in conflict with Donald Trump’s agenda, which he is pursuing and expressing. Pence stated on Fox News that he could not support Donald Trump’s campaign because of this.
After dropping his own presidential campaign in October, the ex-VP did not endorse in the 2024 Republican primary; nevertheless, he had previously promised to support the ultimate nominee of the Republican Party. Following Pence’s withdrawal, Trump had stated, “I chose him, made him vice president,” implying that his former VP should support him. But… politicians can be incredibly unfaithful.
Pence said that Trump had abandoned conservative causes, citing Trump’s positions on abortion, the US national debt, and TikTok, while expressing his “incredibly proud” of the record of the Trump-Pence government.
Throughout my run for president, I made it quite apparent that I and President Trump had very different views on many topics. According to Pence, during an appearance on “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” there is more than just a disagreement about his constitutional duties, which he fulfilled on January 6th.
I have seen him abandon our promise to address the national debt as his campaign has progressed. I’ve noticed that he’s becoming more reticent to fully support the idea that human life is sacred. And just last week, he reversed his stance on being harsh on China and was on board with our administration’s attempts to get ByteDance’s TikTok sold.
In the general election of 2024, Pence stated that he will keep “my vote to myself,” meaning he will not announce his voting choice. But he insisted he would “never vote” for Joe Biden in the upcoming election. Additionally, Pence implied that he would not support a candidate from a third party.
While ceremoniously supervising Congress’ certification of Biden’s victory on January 6, 2021, Pence chose not to alter the 2020 election results, going against his boss’s wishes. Pence went on to say that his family and others at the US Capitol were “endangered” by Trump’s “reckless words” on that day when a mob of Trump fans brutally breached the building.
Pence cautioned Republicans during his own presidential campaign last year against falling for the “siren song of populism” that Trump and his followers were peddling.
It was just reported that Pence and his group, Advancing American Freedom, will be allocating $20 million to support conservative ideas.
