When confronted by a group of Trump fans outside of a rally in New Hampshire, former VP Mike Pence defended the decision to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 election.
What made you decide to betray the people? A man yelled as Pence pulled up to a town hall meeting in Londonderry on a Friday night. What prevented you from standing up for the Constitution?
“I upheld the Constitution,” Pence replied. As the saying goes, “Read it.”
ABC and NBC also aired footage showing protesters in the group wearing “Make America Great Again” apparel and brandishing pro-Trump banners.
The most fervent Trump supporters turned on Vice President Pence after he performed the ceremonial job of certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election on January 6, 2021.
As a result, Pence has had trouble making headway in the Republican race. Pence only raised $3.8 million in the second quarter of the year, and he consistently polls in the single digits in national and early primary state surveys, therefore he has not yet qualified for the August GOP debate.
In April, when Pence spoke at an NRA convention, the audience booed him the whole time. During a candidate forum in the middle of July, he also got into a heated argument with Tucker Carlson.
Pence has been careful not to lose any potential supporters by being too harsh in his condemnation of Trump’s base.
“There is a great deal of enthusiasm in the world. Pence later added, “I reject your suggestion that that passion is translated into the violence and the vandalism of that day,” alluding to the disturbance at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. “I know the people of this movement are the best people in this country, whether they support me or not.”
On Tuesday, the former president was accused on accusations of conspiring against the United States in an effort to thwart the results of the 2020 presidential election. Pence has signalled his intention to utilise the indictment as a contrastive campaign issue.
“Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States,” the former vice president stated in a statement released Tuesday in response to the news.
Trump is now facing state charges related to alleged hush money payments to a pornstar, in addition to federal allegations for mishandling secret documents. At a national security gathering in New Hampshire on Saturday, Pence stressed the importance of mishandling secret materials without mentioning the former president by name or discussing Trump’s indictment related to the misuse of sensitive documents.
Pence added, “We’ve got to be deadly serious about handling classified materials in this country,” and then he mentioned the documents that were found in his Indiana home earlier this year and his “inadvertent” mishandling of them.
“I admitted my guilt,” the ex-vice president declared.
