Some of President Trump’s first moves in the first weeks of his second term have received widespread praise from Americans.
Despite this deluge of activity since Trump’s re-election on January 20, a new nationwide survey shows that the public also approves of his other actions.
According to a tally by AWN, Trump has issued 63 executive orders since taking office, which is far more than any of his predecessors did in their first week.
The nation’s opinion on Trump’s executive order requiring the federal government to recognize just two sexes—male and female—was most strongly expressed in a national survey by Marquette Law School that was published on Wednesday.
According to the study, 63% of respondents across the country were in favor of the move, while 37% were against it.
“Defend women’s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male.” That’s the promise of the gender directive that Trump signed only hours after taking office.
Official papers like as passports, visas, and Global Entry cards are now compelled to appropriately represent the holder’s sex, and the federal government is now obligated to use the term “sex” instead of “gender” according to the directive.
This action undid the previous administration’s 2022 decision to restore the option for U.S. citizens to pick the gender-neutral “X” on their passports.
Trump made it clear throughout his successful 2024 presidential campaign that he would repeal laws protecting nonbinary and transgender persons. An advertisement under his campaign’s banner said that former Vice President Kamala Harris “is for they/them” and ran in crucial swing states. Your president, Trump, is on your side.
There is a clear party split in the poll, with 94% of Republicans and 2/3 of independents in favor of the executive order, while just 27% of Democrats share this view.
Six out of ten people also support increasing oil and gas output, so it seems like a popular choice.
Support was also shown for a number of Trump’s initiatives concerning immigration and border security.
Of those who took the survey, 60% are in favor of sending illegal immigrants back to their home countries, and 59% are in favor of declaring a national emergency along the southern border with Mexico because of the influx of migrants.
On the other hand, 57% of respondents were against deporting long-term illegal residents who are employed and have no criminal history.
Also receiving a lot of flak is Trump’s decision to commute the sentences or pardon almost all of his supporters’ crimes on January 6, 2021, when they stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to derail legislative certification of Biden’s 2020 Electoral College triumph against Trump. Sixty-five percent were against the president’s action.
Trump has often said that the United States will reclaim the Panama Canal, but an equal proportion of respondents disagree with him.
Furthermore, 71% of Americans across the country are against Trump’s plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
While 57% of Republicans are in favor of the rebranding, only 16% of independents and 4% of Democrats are on board.
Trump begins his second term with 48% favor and 52% disapproval, according to the Marquette Law School Poll, which was conducted from January 27 to February 5.
“In the new poll, as in the past, approval is closely related to partisanship, with 89% of Republicans approving of Trump, a view shared by 37% of independents and 9% of Democrats,” the poll’s announcement observed, drawing attention to the huge political split.
