Despite his reluctance to officially endorse Trump, Republican Tennessee Governor Bill Lee—who is also the current chair of the Republican Governors Association—has stated that he will back the next Republican nominee for president.
At the AWN Governor’s Summit, Lee was asked about Trump. Not willing to commit to either Trump or former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley—who is currently lagging the former president in most polls—he stated that he will be “wholeheartedly supportive of the Republican nominee” if one is chosen.
“As the chairman of the Republican governors, I have always stated, and I believe it is crucial: I am obligated not to participate in the primary,” Lee reiterated. Many people are part of our group. Even though we have many members from different parts of the state, our main concern is not with the presidential campaign.
Lee also sidestepped the question of Trump’s (77) and Biden’s (81), ages, which many voters find troubling. Lee stated that the nominations will be chosen by the people, avoiding any direct commentary on the matter.
The candidates for our nominations were chosen by the voters, according to Lee. “We let the people of this nation decide, and we can say what we want about that; the people who will decide care and go out and vote to choose their candidates.”
