Despite new claims that President Joe Biden is suffering from memory loss, Senate Democrats insist they are unconcerned. On the contrary, they are lambasting Special Counsel Robert Hur for what they perceive as unwarranted attacks.
After reviewing the confidential records, Hur concluded that there should be no charges against Biden; however, he did suggest that a jury may view the president as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” The report was made public on Thursday. According to the investigation conducted by the former U.S. attorney for Maryland, who was nominated by Trump, Biden had memory problems, including forgetting the beginning and ending of his tenure as vice president and the date of his son Beau’s death.
Senate Democrats were especially enraged by the last point.
In a brief interview, Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) stated, “What you have is a grandstander not a prosecutor.” Kaine went on to say that the United States would likely witness Biden being “very vigorously engaged” as the campaign season intensifies.
The manner he disdained and slandered the president is reprehensible, according to Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.). His comments regarding the president’s apparent indifference to his son’s death are quite repugnant.
Republicans wasted little time in claiming the findings proved Biden couldn’t handle another four years as president. “He is not fit to be President,” Speaker Mike Johnson stated firmly in a statement released on Thursday.
The Democrats countered on Friday by stating that their own encounters with Biden have not revealed any similar problems. According to Smith, who recently spent most of the day travelling with Biden, he was “at the very top of his game, all the way through it, both in private and in person.” So she said. By her own admission, the special prosecutor “clearly in my mind, when you look at it, has a political axe to grind,” she said of the Trump appointee.
In November, there will be a decision between two candidates, according to Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), chair of the Armed Services Committee. “I think this issue of age is already out there,” Reed said. “I was with a congressional leadership about two weeks ago, and no one walked out of that meeting, saying, ‘Oh, my God, it was like he wasn’t in charge.’”
Several Democrats also claimed that this was a passing fad, given that Republicans had been criticising Biden for some time due to his advanced years. “People have been talking about his age for a while,” said Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), one of the most endangered Senate Democrats, in an interview. He added that he had not yet reviewed the story. Just the way it is. Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) responded to a question about if Senator Biden’s memory was an issue by saying, “He’s dealing with that.” That is a widely recognised problem. That’s old news.
However, how could Biden assuage the fears of Americans who are worried about his memory and age? According to Welch, it would be beneficial for him to come out and be seen as much as possible right now.
Those Democrats who admitted Biden could have a problem were eager to point out that Trump was in a worse situation.
As we speak, Trump is on day 78. Additionally, the president’s age is 81. How significant is that? Obviously not; it’s identical. According to Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.), “They are older folks, and they’re our choices.”
“Trump confused Haley and Pelosi or something,” he went on to say, alluding to a recent gaffe by Trump.
