Surprising Impact: New Poll Reveals Potential Boost for Biden

According to a new poll that was issued on Wednesday, the reelection campaign of President Joe Biden could benefit from the possible conviction of former President Donald Trump on criminal charges.

As per the NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist survey, Biden and Trump are still in a statistical dead heat among registered voters. Although Trump seems to be coasting to the party nomination, 51% of respondents indicated they would support Biden in the event of a Trump criminal conviction, while 46% indicated they would support Trump.

A number of legal challenges have been filed against Trump recently, including federal and state criminal prosecutions about his purported efforts to tamper with the 2020 election results. So far, the ex-president has tried to utilise court appearances to his advantage by transforming his visits to courthouses into informal campaign rallies.

The likelihood of convictions in any of the cases prior to the November election remains uncertain. Last week, Judge Tanya Chutkan cancelled the March 4 trial date in response to Trump’s attempts to have higher courts declare him immune from the accusations. The original trial date was supposed to take place next month on the eve of Super Tuesday in the Washington, D.C., criminal case. On Tuesday, a panel of three judges rejected his claims of immunity.

Using a combination of phone, text, and internet surveys, 1,441 eligible voters were questioned between January 29 and February 1. Plus or minus 3.6 percentage points is the margin of error.
