Trump took another shot at the semiannual time change on Friday, urging lawmakers to “push hard for more Daylight at the end of a day”—his latest jab at DC.
“Very popular and, most importantly, no more changing of the clocks, a big inconvenience and, for our government, a VERY COSTLY EVENT!!!” Trump said on his Truth Social media network.
In order to keep the country on daylight saving time, the Republican president’s policy, which calls for more daylight, would advance the timetable. Day after a Senate committee heard arguments for and against a permanent, non-changing time, he made his post.
The idea of daylight saving time being standardized by states has been gaining traction recently.
To be sure, much of the nation still observes daylight saving time, which entails moving clocks one hour ahead of standard time from spring through October. Its initial implementation was in 1942 during the war.
Because it was “inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation,” Trump said last year that the Republican Party should do away with daylight saving time.
However, in a subsequent social media post last month, he retracted that statement, describing it as a “50-50 issue.”
Some people want more light in the afternoon, the president stated, while others would like more light in the morning so they don’t have to drag their children to school in the dark.
“When something’s a 50-50 issue, it’s hard to get excited about it,” he remarked.
Even though it failed to move forward, a bill that would have permanently extended daylight saving time across the US was overwhelmingly adopted by the Senate in 2022.
