A 30-day postponement of Donald Trump’s criminal hush money trial has been proposed by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, as stated in a court document.
At this time, the trial is set to begin on March 25.
This surprising move — by one of the prosecution teams — casts doubt on the date of what is meant to be the first trial. Trump’s defence teams have constantly tried to postpone the proceedings past the election.
The district attorney’s office stated that the intended postponement is to examine additional evidence that was submitted by federal prosecutors this week.
The new filing claims that the US attorney’s office will have more discovery materials to release after sending around 31,000 pages on Wednesday.
Despite the People’s readiness to go to trial on March 25, they are willing to give the defendant more time to evaluate the additional materials and are not opposed to an extension out of prudence, according to the brief.
The district attorney’s letter states that due to recent records releases by federal prosecutors, Trump’s counsel have requested a 90-day trial postponement or the dismissal of the case altogether.
