According to new polling by the Wall Street Journal released Tuesday night, former president Donald Trump has a tiny edge over president Joe Biden or is tied with him in seven key states.
If asked to choose between the two candidates in a showdown, respondents in six of the seven states where the race is close range from giving Trump a commanding 6 percentage point edge in North Carolina to giving him a narrow 1 percentage point lead in Georgia. In Wisconsin, Biden and Trump are neck and neck with 46% of the vote.
There was a four percentage point margin of error across all states. Six hundred eligible voters from each of the following states participated in the March 17–24 phone and text poll: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Only North Carolina went to Trump in the 2020 presidential election; the other six states went to Biden.
A large portion of the people polled are still on the fence; for example, 13% in Georgia and 8% in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada.
Both Biden and Trump’s levels of approval while in office were also inquired about in the survey. While 38% of respondents were satisfied with Biden’s performance as president, 51% were satisfied with Trump’s tenure.
