Fox News confirmed that President-elect Trump has nominated Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., as the next US Ambassador to the United Nations.
The New York Post initially reported on the nomination, which is one of the first to be announced during Trump’s transition period.
“I am proud to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. “Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” Trump told the Post.
Stefanik, the chairperson of the House Republican Conference, sent her own comment to the site.
“I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations,” Stefanik said in a tweet. “During my call with President Trump, I expressed how honored I am to accept his nomination and how eager I am to gain the support of my colleagues in the US Senate. President Trump’s historic landslide victory has given the American people optimism and serves as a reminder that better days are ahead, both at home and abroad.
Stefanik, the fourth-highest ranking House Republican, appears frequently on television to campaign for the GOP on a variety of issues, including Israel and the “Biden Crime Family.”
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the Biden-Harris administration’s U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, does not seek extensive media coverage.
Stefanik, who was elected to her sixth term in the House this week, made national news by questioning Ivy League university presidents about rising antisemitism on college campuses in the aftermath of the Oct. 7 terrorist assaults on Israel.
“The work ahead is immense as we see antisemitism skyrocketing coupled with four years of catastrophically weak U.S. leadership that significantly weakened our national security and diminished our standing in the eyes of both allies and adversaries,” Stefanik said in a statement to the newspaper. “I stand ready to advance President Donald J. Trump’s restoration of America First peace through strength leadership on the world stage on Day One at the United Nations.”
