Trump's Courthouse Claims: Fact Check Reveals Truth

On Friday, former president Donald Trump continued his spree of false statements regarding his trial in Manhattan, continuing his assault on the courtroom.

Accusations against Trump include manipulating company records, and he has been consistently wrong in his remarks to the media as he has entered and exited the courtroom. He made an unfounded assertion on Thursday afternoon, stating that he cannot testify due to the judge’s gag order.

He finally admitted on Friday morning that he can testify, but he lied about the case again, this time stating he couldn’t campaign this weekend because of the trial and that he was compelled to post bond.
The bail claim made by Trump

New York place is already a dangerous place, but the cashless bail has made it much worse, according to Trump. It’s all my responsibility to post bail.

Priorities: Trump’s assertion is unfounded. His non-violent charges meant that he, like many others in New York, was not required to post bail. His 2023 arraignment resulted in his release on his own recognizance, meaning he was not required to post bond.

Trump stated on Friday that he is being unfairly treated in New York, despite the fact that he posted a $200,000 bond in his separate election subversion case in Fulton County, Georgia. He paid 10% of the cost himself and the rest was covered by a bail bonds business. Two federal criminal cases were dismissed against him: one in Florida involving his retention of confidential materials after his administration ended, and the other in Washington, DC, involving his efforts to reverse the 2020 election. He was released on his own recognizance in both cases.

“A violent city” is a subjective way of describing New York City, according to Trump. It should be mentioned that the city’s violent crime rate has decreased significantly over the past 20 years, that it has consistently had lower crime rates compared to many other cities and towns in the nation, and that the influence of bail reforms in New York state on the city’s current crime rates is debatable.
A misleading statement regarding Trump’s schedule

On Friday, Trump persisted in his gripe that his absence from campaigning is due to the New York trial. “We were already marked down — months ago, we were marked down to be in Georgia today, where we’re doing very well at the polls, by the way,” he stated this time. However, our intended destination was that exact spot. We have scheduled trips to Ohio tomorrow and Florida the next day to do— well, campaigning. So now I’m stuck with this trial every single day.

First Things First: It is not true that Trump can’t have campaign events this weekend due to the trial. He has the freedom to campaign anywhere he pleases on Saturday and the day after because the trial is not being held on weekends or Wednesdays. He even plans to fly to Florida on that day. On Saturday, Trump will be the featured speaker at a closed-door fundraiser luncheon for the Republican National Committee at his Mar-a-Lago club. On Sunday, he is anticipated to attend the Formula One Miami Grand Prix.

Trump has stated that he was meant to be in Ohio on Saturday, but his assertion lacks any evidence to support it. He plans to visit the state on May 15, which is another Wednesday without court. On Friday, he never publicly booked a campaign event for Georgia, and it’s unknown what his staff “marked down” internally.

On Wednesday, Trump addressed supporters at rallies in Michigan and Wisconsin; last Saturday, he was supposed to hold a rally in North Carolina, but bad weather forced him to cancel. On his days off from court, he rarely makes public appearances or visits swing states; instead, he hosts meetings and dinners at Trump Tower in Manhattan or plays golf at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
