Trump, who was convicted on 34 felony charges of manipulating company records, expressed his willingness to serve possible jail time or be subject to home arrest after his historic conviction.
In an interview that aired on Sunday, Trump told Fox News, “I’m OK with it,” in response to a question regarding the possible sanctions. “Oh no, you wouldn’t want to do that to the president,” my lawyer said on television recently. If you ask for anything, I’ll tell you to stop.
Trump clarified, though, that he did not believe the public could tolerate it. People probably wouldn’t support it.
“It would be difficult for the general population to endure, you know, there comes a tipping point,” Trump stated.
His remarks follow a few days after a Manhattan jury declared Trump guilty of all charges in his hush money trial. This made him first among past presidents to be found guilty of a criminal while running for president and first among major-party presidential nominees to be convicted of a crime while campaigning.
The sentencing hearing for Trump was scheduled for July 11 at 10 a.m. ET by Judge Juan Merchan. Trump could face a maximum of twenty years in state prison or four years of probation, depending on the count, imposed by Merchan.
The ex-president is currently not behind bars awaiting punishment. He blamed the “sick” individuals involved in his conviction and insisted he was innocent in an interview with Fox News.
Trump stated, “I’m fighting for the Constitution,” and went on to say that his family had it “tougher” throughout the trial than he had. Melania Trump, the former first lady of the United States, is doing OK, but the president thinks it’s very difficult for her. You know, she’s just fine. But the thing is, she’s stuck reading all this garbage.
When asked about the possibility of taking revenge in the event that he becomes president in 2024, Trump responded that although it sounds “beautiful” to simply achieve, it’s “awfully hard when you see what they’ve done.”
“Unfortunately, the nation has the ability to unite, even though these individuals are incredibly wicked,” he continued.
