U.S. Central Command claims that on Thursday AM local time, a US warship successfully shot down “multiple one-way attack drones” that had been launched from territory under Houthi control in Yemen.
According to a statement released by CENTCOM, the USS Thomas Hudner successfully shot down the drones while on patrol in the Red Sea, with no damage to the ship or injuries to her crew.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed to have fired ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, heightening tensions in the Red Sea region since the commencement of the Israel-Hamas war.
About 25 crew members were taken hostage on Sunday when the Houthis captured the cargo ship Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea.
The United States wants “the immediate release” of the cargo ship and crew detained by the Houthis in the Red Sea, State Department spokesperson Matt Miller said Monday.
