Suspicion of yet another impeachment of Donald Trump stemming from US aid to Ukraine? Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) has raised the prospect of it happening in the event that Trump is elected and the $95 billion emergency spending measure for foreign aid becomes law.
Vance sent a statement to the Republican offices in the Senate on Monday, stating that the foreign aid package might limit Trump’s ability to negotiate an end to Russia’s war on the United States ally by pausing funding for Ukraine. Trump is expected to take office next year and wants to do just that. Vance claims that the upcoming Trump administration will be unable to make independent decisions regarding funding for Ukraine because a portion of the legislation’s funding will expire nine months into the next presidency.
In a last-ditch effort to halt the measure before a vital vote later on Monday to conclude debate on the foreign aid plan—which requires 60 votes—Vance, one of the most vocal opponents of aid to Ukraine, is making his move.
The foreign policy blob/deep state is trying to thwart President Trump’s agenda with the supplemental, and if he goes ahead and pursues it nonetheless, they will have grounds to impeach him and bring down his administration. The memo from Vance’s office goes as follows: “All Republicans should oppose its passage.
After Trump’s actions in 2019 to withhold funds meant for Ukraine and to urge Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden, who Trump lost to in 2020 in November, the then-Democratic House majority impeached him. Trump was cleared by the Senate in early 2020.
Trump is attempting to derail the foreign assistance package and is asking the Senate to do the same, even though the 2024 election is still nine months away. However, with the GOP having just one more chance to veto the bill later on Monday, it is evident that it will pass. However, it must first be approved by the House, which is currently looking like an unlikely occurrence.
According to Vance’s new document, the incoming president might face impeachment charges once again if he “were to withdraw from or pause financial support for the war in Ukraine in order to bring the conflict to a peaceful conclusion.” This would happen if the overseas aid bill were to become law and Trump were to win the election.
