According to two persons acquainted with the incident, the man who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, attempted to tie him up “until Nancy arrived home.” The attacker claimed he was “waiting for Nancy” when the police showed up.
Early on Friday morning, a man attacker struck Paul Pelosi with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco residence, according to law enforcement sources spoke to by AWN. According to a source briefed on the attack, the person who attacked Paul Pelosi was looking for the speaker of the House. In their San Francisco home, the intruder confronted the speaker’s husband, yelling, “Where is Nancy? “Where is Nancy?” the source said.
Pelosi, 82, was admitted to the hospital but is anticipated to fully recover, according to a statement from the Democratic speaker’s office. This morning, Pelosi underwent surgery, according to two persons with knowledge of the matter. His physicians have informed his family that he should fully recover, the sources claimed.
An outpouring of grief and outrage from congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle followed the incident, which sent shockwaves through Washington. In the wake of the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol as well as other prominent violent episodes that have targeted members of Congress in recent years, there are still significant concerns about political violence targeted at politicians.
The attacker is in arrest, according to Drew Hammill, a spokeswoman for Nancy Pelosi, and a motive is being looked into. According to a spokeswoman, the speaker was in Washington at the time of the attack.
In his statement, Hammill added that the Speaker and her family “are appreciative to the first responders and medical professionals involved” and “want privacy at this time.”
David DePape, 42, was named as the culprit at a news conference by San Francisco Police Department Chief William Scott, who also described what responding law enforcement officials saw when they got at the scene.
According to Scott, when police arrived at the home, they found “one adult male and Mr. Pelosi’s husband, Paul.” The guy “took a hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and severely struck him with it,” Scott continued. Our officers tackled the subject without delay, disarmed him, took him into custody, called for assistance in an emergency, and provided first aid. David DePape, 42, has been identified as the suspect.
A motive, according to Scott, is still being worked out.
The alleged attacker of Paul Pelosi posted memes and conspiracies regarding Covid vaccinations, the 2020 election, and the attack on January 6 on Facebook, and a friend told AWN that he appeared to be “out of touch with reality.”
The FBI and the San Francisco Police are working together “with a combined investigation” into the break-in at the Pelosi residence in California, the US Capitol Police stated in a statement early this morning.
According to two sources familiar with the initial circumstances of the incident, the attacker entered the Pelosi home through the back of the building.
One source familiar with protocol claims that there wouldn’t have been a security detail at the home when Speaker Pelosi was away.
According to two law enforcement sources, the home has security cameras that US Capitol Police and other law enforcement may be able to observe on film.
Speaker Pelosi and President Joe Biden spoke, according to the White House.
“The President is sending prayers to Paul Pelosi and the Pelosi family as a whole. He called Speaker Pelosi this morning to offer his sympathy following this horrific attack, according to a statement from the press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
He is also relieved that a full recovery is anticipated, she continued. The President reiterates his condemnation of all forms of violence and requests that the family’s request for privacy be honoured.
The leader of the Senate’s Republican party, Mitch McConnell, tweeted on Friday that Pelosi’s alleged home attack had him “horrified and disgusted.”
The Kentucky Republican stated, “Grateful to hear that Paul is on pace to make a full recovery and that law enforcement, especially our great Capitol Police, are on the case.”
After the incident, House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy contacted Speaker Pelosi, according to McCarthy’s office.
According to Mark Bednar, a spokesman for McCarthy, “Leader McCarthy reached out to the Speaker to check in on Paul and said he’s praying for a full recovery and is glad they caught the assailant.”
The Pelosis have five kids and have been married since 1963.
