Behind the Scenes: Casey and Ron DeSantis' Cleanup Operation in Iowa

The DeSantis and Casey camps are trying to get the Florida first lady to backtrack on Friday’s remarks that seemed to rally non-Florida voters to cast ballots in the Iowa caucuses.

You don’t need to be an Iowa resident to take part in the caucus, so we’re inviting all these moms and grandmas to travel from North Carolina or South Carolina and assemble in Iowa for the gathering. During a side-by-side appearance with her husband on Fox News, Casey announced that mothers and grandmothers would have the opportunity to attend a “Mamas for DeSantis” event in West Des Moines and express their support for Ron DeSantis.

Casey DeSantis confirmed on X following her interview on Fox News that she did not intend to vote in the Iowa caucuses when she said she was participating.

Although only Iowa registered voters are able to cast ballots in the Iowa caucuses, there is a method for non-Iowa residents to participate. She invited grandmothers and mothers from throughout the nation to work at the Iowa caucus in support of Ron DeSantis, and she provided a website where they could sign up.

After the occasion, the governor of Florida spoke to reporters and refuted the claims made by some Trump supporters on X that his wife was inciting people to vote illegally in the January 15 caucus.

The DeSantis campaign has previously provided a detailed response to the question, according to a spokesperson who was reached out to for comment.

Both Casey and Gov. Reynolds have our deepest gratitude for all that they do. Before accepting questions, Ron DeSantis informed reporters that they are starting a nationwide recruitment drive to seek volunteers for the caucus from the Mamas’ movement.

You may not be able to cast a ballot in the caucus, but you can certainly lend a hand. They even allow campaign representatives to go out into the precincts, so you never know who might show up who can talk authoritatively about our leadership.

“Not to caucus,” Ron DeSantis told a reporter who had asked him about his wife’s plea for out-of-staters to converge on Iowa. It is to offer assistance and participate as a volunteer. While anyone can make a speech during a caucus, only registered Republicans in Iowa are allowed to vote. It is intriguing, though, that you may welcome someone from a faraway place—like Florida—who we have touched in some way. In the caucus, they can represent me in a precinct, which is an attractive and novel approach.

When asked about it, a DeSantis campaign spokesman claimed the candidate had previously provided a detailed response.

The Trump team used the remark to attack the DeSantises, claiming that they support voter fraud.

We are requesting that Kim Reynolds, the governor of Iowa, make it clear what the rules are; the DeSantises’ instructions are blatantly incorrect and might further disenfranchise caucus attendants. In a statement released on Saturday, the campaign claimed that even the Republican Party of Iowa felt the need to respond swiftly to the false information spread by the DeSantises.

“All Trump supporters must be aware of the DeSantises’ openly stated plot to rig the Caucus through fraud. The Trump campaign strongly condemns their dirty and illegal tactics.”
